If you want to play an active part in making the nature garden useful and attractive, look no further – there are lots of ways to be involved.
Things you can do to help
- water anything that looks thirsty – there’s a can by the water butt
- fill the water point beside the log seating
- clear grass away from around any trees, shrubs, ferns or other obvious plants
- mow the meadow path
- weed the bark paths
- remove nettles from the mound
Become a nature garden champion
How would you like to be a champion for nature? You’d be responsible for becoming a bit of an expert on anything from bugs to frogs, from butterflies to bluebells.
Your knowledge would be put to good use ensuring that the nature garden is made as welcoming to your chosen species as possible.
Build a room for the bug hotel
Use your building skills to fix it for insects to stay cosy this winter.
Come planting
In the autumn through to December we’ll need to plant lots of trees, shrubs, plants and bulbs. If you could spare an hour or two on one of our planting days (dates to be confirmed) it’d be a huge help. No experience necessary – just your willingness to get your hands dirty.
Green gifting
Not everyone has time in abundance, but maybe you have plants in your garden you could donate. Because we’re planting to benefit native wildlife, we need native species as listed in the planting scheme.
Other elements of the nature garden need to be funded too. These include furniture, fencing and landscaping equipment. If you’d like to help, please contact support@nature-garden.co.uk
Join the volunteer nature group
The nature garden is designed to be low maintenance, requiring attention a few times a year. Activities will include keeping paths clear of debris, cutting the meadow, pruning back as required, and keeping invasive species under control. If you’d like to join the volunteers and be included in work parties and other activities, please get in touch.
